Tips for organizing a quiet Christmas

We know it from previous years, we try to organize ourselves with time and although there is still more than a month left for the Christmas celebrations, suddenly time is running out and we have the feeling that we are caught by the bull.

That's why this year, I want to give you 11 tips to organize a Christmas without rushing, so that you know how to organize yourselves to have everything ready in advance and be able to enjoy family and meals in a relaxed way without having to be back and forth without stopping for a moment. We will see what menu to choose, when to do the shopping, when to cook each dish, what can be ready in advance or even cooked and frozen and many other tips so that even if we have to organize some of the events, we do not have an anxiety attack by the stress of the moment.

1. Plan the menu ahead of time.

Depending on whether you organize the Christmas Eve dinner, Christmas lunch or the following family gatherings, think of a menu you can make and decide which appetizers you will serve, which dish will be the main course or main courses and which ones you want to "train" so as not to improvise on the day of the family reunion. We all like to dazzle the family but the day of Christmas Eve dinner is not the day to make an experiment that could fail. My recommendation is that you make a menu that you feel comfortable with and if you are going to include a new dish, try cooking it a few weeks before to see where you fail or where you need to improve. Important! Don't forget to make you online shopping of Lemax before you sit down at the table.

2. Write the menu and develop the list of ingredients.

Shopping List  If you write down the ingredients you need for each dish in a list, you will be able to do the shopping at once and you won't have forgetfulness that will only make you anxious and waste your time. You will also be able to see which products you have to order from your butcher/fishmonger/poultry farmer and which ones you can buy now. (We will see this later) Show the menu to your family and see if they prefer to change anything. It's better to find out now about their tastes and preferences than to see bad faces on the appointed days. Also keep in mind that if you overdo it with the Christmas appetizers, they won't make it to the main courses.

3. Dishes not to be missed

This is something that depends on the traditions of the area in which you live, family customs and tastes of each one, but there are certain foods that can not miss on our table, those that always come home for Christmas.

It's not that you necessarily have to make a roast lamb, a baked sea bream or a salt sea bass, or that the prawn platter or the smoked salmon dish are a must, but we all know that some of these recipes are closely associated with Christmas and nothing will make our loved ones happier than giving them what they expect on that day.

4. Beware of allergies and intolerances and other forms of eating Salad

At home many of us get together to eat and just as we have to think about children and adults, we also have to consider whether any of the dishes we are going to cook may be unpalatable or cause problems for some of the guests. Lactose intolerance, gluten intolerance and allergies to crustaceans, some fruits or nuts can be a real problem. The best thing to do is to ask everyone who is going to come to let us know if anyone suffers from one of these food problems to avoid risks and bad moments for everyone. You already know that almost all the recipes can be adapted to be suitable for everyone. Also keep in mind that more and more people do not eat meat or eat a vegetarian, flexible or strictly vegan diet so you have to take this into account when planning the menu.

9. The decoration of the table and the house.

Chritsmas Decoration Details Choosing the tablecloth, underplates, glasses and cutlery is something that takes a lot of time. It is good to calculate how many people we are going to be to see if we are missing chairs, plates or any other necessary element to make our Christmas menu a success. It is a task in which we can all collaborate and it is fun to think of decorations, auxiliary elements and details to make our table and our house more beautiful this year.

10. Nougat is already in the supermarkets

The variety of nougat flavors is much greater now than in a month when they start to disappear and we do not find that passion fruit nougat we were told about or there are only stocks of the flavors we like the least at home. Also, remember that in Directo al Paladar we have many recipes for making homemade nougat that can come in handy. As for prices, in some places you can find the nougat now at a good price and as soon as December begins, it starts to rise. My advice is to distribute the extra expense that Christmas always means between November and December, so the things that you can already buy, it is better to buy them now and the fresh and perishable products that you have to buy at the right time, leave them for the month of December.

11. Let's not forget the toasts Cava and champagne.

Without forgetting cider, are the usual products with which we toast at Christmas, we wish happiness for the coming dates and we make great resolutions. Here it happens the same as with the nougat and it is better to buy the bottles that we calculate that we are going to use to find them at a better price. With these 11 tips to organize a Christmas without rushing I think you have a lot in advance to enjoy family and Christmas meals without stress or tension. Don't forget that the most repeated wish during these holidays is to wish Merry Christmas.
