Looking for inspiration for your Christmas village?

There are more and more Christmas fans who cannot resist building their first Christmas village. Here we tell you some initiation tips!

Although it can find its place in the house at any time of the year, the miniature village is very often associated with Christmas, and for good reason: most of the most common houses and characters represent this time of year.

Decorative, hobby, the miniature village has been increasingly appreciated in recent years. As the Christmas holidays approach, your garden centers will offer you a large selection of figurines, decorative pieces, buildings and other subjects that can decorate the scene of your choice. The only limit to your miniature village: your creativity!

Experienced miniature village creators know that one of the main problems in making the village is where it will be located. A scene, also an attractive vignette, depicting an everyday event or just a sample town, will light up a space less powerfully than an entire town. Beginners will more easily opt for this option because the implementation time is shorter and the investment is lower.

Where some choose to produce several vignettes during the year to repeat the exercise depending on the seasons and their shipments, others prefer to work all year on a single large-scale project and will create a town of several square meters.

Once you are sure of what you want to put in place for the Christmas holidays, you will have to look into its realization. If you opt for a turnkey solution, it will not take long, many kits and assortments allow you to stage a village very quickly. However, if you prefer to create certain elements for your own feet, or make a raised platform yourself (see next step), then you will need to think about where to work, as this may take some time.

Three souvenirs, a bureau, a garage or a cellar, will be the best options for you various creations, because let certain elements in the creation course at the middle of the room to manage the seasons of drying the school, painting or simply du passage in the next step may be somewhat cumbersome or inconvenient.

Finally, one thing to remember, the platform built in your workshop will also have to go through the door to reach the living room.

Once your creation workshop is ready to fire, think carefully about where your village will be located.

In a living room?

Ideal for the whole family and your guests to enjoy. Indeed, there is something to be proud of when you achieve such a creation. But do you have small children or pets? It is not recommended to leave a miniature village within reach of children, or a pet. Some small decorative elements could be dangerous.

In a secondary room?

This is indeed a choice often made by the creators of large villages, because it allows them to enjoy a creation of good size without interfering with daily life in the house. It is sometimes difficult to have dinner with the family when the miniature village approaches ten square meters and has been placed in the living room.

is for many elements of your miniature village, you can choose between two solutions to start your construction: opt for a preformed platform, or build everything yourself. The platforms available for sale, for example from the My Village brand, are very light and easy to handle. Available in different sizes, they have the advantage of being in volume, and are just waiting to be embellished with buildings and characters. You can always customize them using different materials.

If you prefer to have more freedom or make a larger village, you can choose to place it on a plywood board, which will then be covered with extruded polystyrene. You can cut it to your liking and according to your needs.

To finalize a miniature Christmas village, one detail, but not the least, must absolutely be done last, the snow. Although predominant on the buildings and scenes, you will have to think about sprinkling your entire village with artificial snow to create an even layer, as if a storm had just occurred above your village. Different types of artificial snow are available for sale, but one thing is certain, bomb snow is strongly discouraged because the powdery effect passes very quickly, this snow sticks to the decorative elements and finally, the breath of the bomb sends flying the details of your scenes.

During the realization of your miniature village, remember to turn off the lights and try to observe it at night: indeed, just like a garden decorated with luminous elements, a miniature village changes appearance when night falls and all the electrical elements are activated. You will be able to balance the doses of light, be careful not to place the streetlights too close to the most illuminated buildings, etc.
